Abstract: Abstract This thesis titled Kya's Self Reliance Depicted In Delia Owens' Novel Where The Crawdads Sings, investigate the causes and Kya’s struggle to achieve self reliance in Delia owen’s best-selling 2018 novel Where the Crawdads Sings with a focus on the protagonist, Kya. This study aims to examine the theme of self-reliance and its significance in Delia Owens' novel, particularly after her abandonment by her family, Kya is compelled to navigate the challenges of solitude and survival in the wilderness. Through an analysis of Kya's character development and interactions with her environment. This research uses sociological of literature approach since its aspect of analysis is through beyond everyday understanding of people and situations. The study delves into inquiries regarding the societal impact of literature, the social purposes served by literary pieces, and the dynamic relationship between literature and larger social contexts proposed by Cuddon. Self reliance theory to analyse the causes of self reliance and to achieve it, proposed by Emerson explains that Self reliance fosters critical thinking, encourages innovative problem-solving, and emphasizes accountability for one's decisions. This research focuses on examine the portrayal of self-reliance in Delia Owen's Where the Crawdads Sing, specifically focusing on how this theme manifests in the protagonist, Kya, as she strives to embody self-reliance following her abandonment by her family. This qualitative research uses the novel Where the Crawdads Sings by Delia Owen as the primary source of the data and various books, thesis’ and journals as secondary data.
