Abstract: ABSTRACT Name : SALAMAH, NPM : 71190212009, Title THE TRADITION OF CALCULATION OF WETON AS A CONDITION OF MARRIAGE ACCORDING TO JAVANESE TRADITIONS REVIEWED FROM ISLAMIC LAW (CASE STUDY OF TANGSI ATAS VILLAGE, LINGGA BAYU DISTRICT, MANDAILING NATAL DISTRICT) In Javanese traditional society, marriage produces offspring which can be a barometer of a person's origins. In Paragraph 1 of Article 1 of the Marriage Law, it is defined as "the physical and spiritual union of a man and a woman as husband and wife with the aim of forming a household (family) that happy and eternal based on faith in God Almighty. Tangsi Atas Village, Lingga Bayu District, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra is one of the villages that still preserves the tradition of calculating weton in marriage and aims to avoid unwanted incidents. Weton is the calculation of the day of birth. In Javanese, "wetu means coming out or being born, then it gets the suffix an which forms a noun. Weton means a combination of the day and the market when the baby is born. Usually this is used for people who want to get married to create a happy, peaceful and loving household and apart from that to decide whether their prospective partner is suitable or not. The compatibility in question means that the marriage will be happy, have a good economy, will not divorce or will not experience disputes that lead to divorce and will not harm the family and oneself. If this calculation is appropriate or matches the calculation that has been determined, then the process will be carried out up to the marriage level. However, on the other hand, even though the bride and groom already like and love each other, parents will still advise their children not to continue the relationship. This research uses qualitative data with the aim of explaining or describing how society responds to the consequences or influence of the Weton tradition in marriage, as well as how Islamic law views the Weton tradition. Therefore, much of the data needed for research was taken from wedding practitioners who used the weton tradition. Review of Islamic law regarding the tradition of calculating weton as a condition for marriage, as long as the conditions and pillars of marriage are met, the marriage is considered valid. In the Compilation of Islamic Law, there are five pillars of marriage, namely: the presence of the prospective bridegroom, the prospective bride, the guardian of the marriage, two witnesses as well as the consent and consent. The terms of marriage are related to the pillars of marriage mentioned above. And marriage pillars have certain conditions.
