Abstract: ABSTRACT This research is a pragmatics analysis that discusses aboutimplicature employed in a novel. The aims of this study are to reveal the use of implicature. The data of the study were from the novel entitled Bumi Manusiawritten by Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s.The study followedGriece’s framework to entangle the implied meanings in the conversations in terms of their maxim arrangement. There are some dialogues delivered by some characters,which have hidden meaning. Sometimes, it will make the readers think twice to understand the implied meaning of that sentence. This study followed qualitative research design to collect and analyse the data. Implicature is the approach, which uses to explain some hidden meaning in the dialogue or narration in the novel. The result of the study shows that there are two types of implicature, namely conventional implicatureand conversational implicature. Conversational implicature have two kinds of implicature, namely generalized and particularized conversational implicature.
