dc.description.abstractGadis Kretek tells a story of tragedy and romance, in which the love story of Soeradja and Jeng Yah is the core of the narrative. During this journey, Lebas, Karim, and Tegar also retrace the steps of his father's business. They uncover several secrets and come to understand the origin of why Kretek Djagad Raja became the number one kretek in Indonesia. Soeradja was so captivated by the kretek made by Jeng Yah because its rolling became the secret formula behind the popularity of Gadis Kretek. Soeradja's betrayal his lover Jeng Yah by leaking the kretek sauce recipe colors his sense of guilt all the way through his critical moments. This study aims to explore John Searle's Commissive speech acts and the illocutionary functions convivial maning or social purpose language of Geofferey N Leech and Illocutionary commissive used from the statements of the main character in this novel. The commissive atcs from the main performance is depicted through Promising, Threatening, Refusing, Pledging: Offering: Vowing, Volunteering. As well as Ilocutionary function : convivial namely Offering, Inviting, Promising, Thanking, Vowing, and Condoling. The substance can be seen from the discourse that leads to the meaning and consequences derived from the novel titled Gadis Kretek by Ratih Kumala. The goals of this study are, first, to understand speech acts and the types of speech acts, specifically commissives. Second, to provide information regarding the illocutionary function contained in the novel , Third, to examine the use of illocutionary commissives in each statement. The result of the study found : Promising: 14 statements, Threatening: 18 statements, Refusing: 24 statements, Pledging: 0, Offering: 27 statements, Vowing: 3 statements, Volunteering: 4 statements, Inviting: 2 statements. Thanking: 1 statement, Vowing: , Condoling: 11 tatements. There is no pledging and inviting statement representing speech acts.
