Abstract: This study explores the use of symbol of nature in Gerard Brach’s movie script Tess of the d’Urbervilles. The study aims to identify and analyze how natural elements such as sign, seasons, and landscapes, function as symbols that reflect the main character emotional state, fate, and moral struggles. Using a qualitative descriptive method and literary analysis approach, the research reveals that Gerard uses nature not only as a background but also as a narrative device to mirror Tess’s inner conflicts and societal pressures. Symbol in the script enriches the thematic depth, emphasizing issues such as innocence, purity, suffering, and inevitability. The findings show that symbols of nature in the script help to highlight the tragic dimension of Tess’s life and strengthen the critical view of Victorian norms and gender roles.
