Abstract: | ABSTRACT This study analyzes the idiomatic expressions in Haemin Sunim’s The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down. It explores the study of idiomatic expressions and examines how the expressions are composed. This is qualitative research which used Martin’s theory to collect and analyse the data to determine the idiomatic expressions of the novel. Some related theories are used to support the analysis. Utilizing Cacciary's theory of idiomatic expressions, the research identifies and describes the idioms comprising an idiom in the novel. By delving into these aspects, the study aims to provide a deeper understanding of how idiomatic expressions are used in casual conversations, knowing that they have a figurative meaning that most native speakers can understand. The results of this study show that the idiomatic expressions in this novel choose to maintain several points of idioms, such as pure idiom, semi idiom and literal idiom. Keywords: Idiomatic expression, idiom, figurative meaning, pure idiom, semi idiom, literal idiom |
