PROTAGONIST’S STRUGGLE AGAINST PREJUDICE IN PHIL JOHNSTON’S MOVIE SCRIPT WRECK-IT RALPH

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the struggle of someone who is prejudiced, where they try to do everything to achieve their goals. In this study, the writer uses qualitative descriptive method to deeply investigates the protagonist in the movie script Wreck it Ralph by Phil Johnston. It was found that struggle can be chosen or inevitable in this movie script. The chosen struggle started when Ralph decides to leave his game to pursue a medal, while the inevitable started just by Ralph appearance causing him being prejudiced. This study used Allport (1945) scale of prejudice theory, who categorized the scale into antilocution, avoidance, discrimination, physical attack, and extermination. The scales of prejudice found in this study are discrimination and avoidance where other character mostly do to Ralph in this movie script. This study focuses on the type of struggle and the scales of prejudice where it has a negative effect for the environment in this movie script.
