Abstract: | ABSTRACT This research discusses the efforts of the Dutch colonial government to stop the actions of Minke, the protagonist in the novel House of Glass by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Using qualitative descriptive research methods, the data were collected through the analysis of words, phrases, and sentences in novels that showed indications of colonial government actions to stop Minke's activities. The methods used include qualitative data collection that focuses on the findings of specific events related to the colonial government's efforts. The analysis is carried out by categorizing the information into relevant themes. The results of this study show that the colonial government used a variety of means to stop Minke, including arrest, detention, and restrictions on freedom of speech. Nonetheless, these efforts show the fundamental weakness of the colonial regime that relied more on military strength and loyalty of indigenous officials than on democratic foundations.
