Abstract: ABSTRACT This research outlines a comprehensive study that delves into the portrayal and implications of the caste system within Pramoedya Ananta Toer's novel, "Bumi Manusia." Set against the backdrop of Dutch colonialism in 19th-century Indonesia, the novel presents a rich exploration of the caste system's influence on characters and societal structures. This study aims to scrutinize the caste system within the novel, including its components, character positioning, and its role in shaping social hierarchies and interactions. By analyzing and interpreting the novel's depiction of this historical and societal construct, this study seeks to provide valuable insights into the socio-cultural and historical context of Dutch colonial Indonesia as presented by the renowned author.
