dc.description.abstractTHE AFTERMATH OF DEFAMATION IN HAMKA’S NOVEL TERUSIR ABSTRACT This research analyzes various slander as a form of defamation that falls on the main character, highlighting the mechanism of its disclosure and its profound impact on dynamic characters. This research aims to find the aftermath of defamation for Mariah, the main character in this novel. Mariah as a victim experienced various difficulties throughout her life. This research uses a literary sociology approach because the analysis aspect is comprehensive beyond the everyday understanding of people and situations. Using a descriptive qualitative method the data is collected through narrative, monologue, or dialogue. Hamka's novel Terusir is the main data source and various books, theses, and journals as secondary data. The findings show that Mariah was a victim of defamation, thrown out by her husband in the middle of the night when it was raining heavily. Mariah left her husband and children without taking any possessions, she walked without any direction. Defamation destroyed her life, led her astray into prostitution, and even got her caught up in criminal law. in short from this research defamation is dangerous. Causing many problems, defamation often drags perpetrators and victims into legal action. This study reveals the impacts, including loss of reputation, financial stress, emotional distress, and legal consequences. Keywords: slander, defamation, the aftermathen_US
