PROTAGONIST’S PATIENCE IN WINSTON GROOM’S NOVEL FORREST GUMP

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims at descripting the characteristics of patience in the novel Forrest Gump by Winston Groom’s. The focus of this study is perseverance and sincerity. The analysis of this thesis is the result of the analysis of the Protagonist which is focused on two topics, namely perseverance and sincerity based on Szutta's theory (2020). The protagonist has the characteristic of patience that exists in him. One of the characteristics of patience towards the protagonist his perseverance in doing all activities or even work that he does completed. In addition, there is sincerity that he has, such as in helping others in any way that he thinks is positive and can make others feel happy and proud of what he does. This research uses descriptive qualitative method because it explains the characteristics of patience and the description of patience through the protagonist. Result shows that the protagonist is a victim of bullying by his friends who rises from adversity. So that he can become someone who achieves and is also a famous businessman. In addition, Forrest is able to prove that limitations are not a carrier to one's success in achieving his dreams. This research also aims to explain that perseverance and sincerity are very important things that must be owned by everyone in achieving a dream and success.
