dc.description.abstract | Thesis Title: DIRECTIVE AND EXPRESSIVE SPEECH ACT IN THE JUDICIAL CASE OF THE MURDER OF JUDGE JAMALUDDIN Abstract Zuraida Hanum was accused to the death sentence since she became the main defendant who was proved to arrange and participate in the execution. This paper is aimed at exploring Searle’s (1996) directives and expressives carried out by Zuraida Hanum who was sentenced to death because of her involvement in the case of judge Jamaluddin’s murder. The research method is a qualitative descriptive. In this context, Zuraida Hanum’s uses directive speech act is described a command, order, request, suggestion, inviting and expressive speech acts in her utterances which mean the feeling of pleasure, pain, dislike, like, joy and sorrow. The substance is seen from the discourse that leads to the meaning and consequences taken from the Putusan Pengadilan Tinggi Medan. The purpose of this research is first to understand speech acts and types of speech acts. Second, as the information of directive and expressive acts which are the types of speech act used by speaker to direct the listener to do as her which to certain actions later in the murder case of Judge Jamaluddin. The results of this study found 5 (five) types of Directive speech acts, namely: command, order, request, suggestion, inviting and 6 (six) types of Expressive speech acts, namely: request, pain, like, dislike, joy and sorrow.The directive and expressive speech act that is mainly produced by the main defendant is dominant by the feeling of pain .
