Abstract: ABSTRACT This research aimed at protagonist basic needs in Jojo Moyes Novel Me Before You based on Maslow’s theory. The main purpose of this study is to know what are basic needs in human life. Basic needs is the elements needed by human being in maintaining life and health. There are five of needs based on Maslow’s theory, but this study only focuses in two the most basic needs, such as physiological needs and safety needs. This study uses descriptive qualitative method because explain what are the parts of basic needs in human life from the most important to be fulfilled and continue to other needs. Based on the research, the subject of this study is Louisa Clark as a protagonist in the novel. The protagonist is the breadwinner in the family so that the most important basic needs must be fulfilled in order to carry out activities, and continue life.
