dc.description.abstractABSTRACT This thesis deals with the protagonist’s ambition in love in Nicholas Sparks’ novel The Notebook. The main objective of this thesis is to study the meaning of ambition. Ambition is an effort and strong determination by person to achieve his goal. Ambition is divided into two types: Extrinsic ambition and Intrinsic ambition. This study is focused on the intrinsic ambition of the protagonist, does several ways to carry out his ambition. This study uses descriptive qualitative method because the process of the result and discussion are accomplished descriptively. By applying descriptive qualitative method, this research can prove that protagonist has several ways of carrying out ambitions to get his love because the topics of how the protagonist's is ambitious in love really exist and can be faced by the protagonist. Based on the research analysis, the writer found that the protagonist, Noah Calhoun does several ways to carry out his ambition in love that is sends some letters to Allie, build their dream home and recovering Allie’s memory. The Protagonist is very ambitious to do it all for his love that ends happily and never gives up to defend his first love despite many obstacles. Keywords: protagonist, ambition, loveen_US
