      <title>The Protagonist’s Life and Loss in Tere Liye's Novel “Hujan</title>
      <link>http://repository.uisu.ac.id/handle/123456789/5372</link>
      <description>Title: The Protagonist’s Life and Loss in Tere Liye's Novel “Hujan
Authors: RAHMA, RISKY KARTIKA
Abstract: This thesis analyses the life journey and experience of loss experienced by the &#xD;
protagonist, in the novel ‘Hujan’ by Tere Liye. The novel tells the story of Lail's &#xD;
struggle to survive after losing her parents and Esok losing his brothers due to a &#xD;
devastating natural disaster in the form of a volcanic eruption and an earthquake. The &#xD;
research examines how the main character survives without loved ones after the &#xD;
devastation, and also goes through the emotionally difficult time of adapting to a new &#xD;
world. Through her relationship with Esok, a loving boy who rescues and supports Lail, &#xD;
the story explores themes of strength, friendship, and the emotional impact of tragedy. &#xD;
Through a qualitative analysis of the novel's narratives, dialogue, and descriptions, the &#xD;
results show a portrayal of the challenges of growing up in the midst of devastation, the &#xD;
grief of separation, and the search for meaning and hope in a world overwhelmed by &#xD;
loss. The analysis emphasises how personal loss shapes the protagonist's development &#xD;
and highlights the human life experience of grief and the process of recovery in the face &#xD;
of great adversity. &#xD;

      <title>CAPTAIN KIDD AS AN ANTI– HERO IN RICHARD ZACKS’ NOVEL THE PIRATE HUNTER</title>
      <link>http://repository.uisu.ac.id/handle/123456789/5367</link>
      <description>Title: CAPTAIN KIDD AS AN ANTI– HERO IN RICHARD ZACKS’ NOVEL THE PIRATE HUNTER
Authors: YUANDA, NURIL EKA
Abstract: The study aimed to analyze the characterization of Captain William Kidd as an anti hero figure in Richard Zacks’ historical narrative The Pirate Hunter: The True Story &#xD;
of Captain Kidd. Rather than depicting Kidd as a conventional villain or heroic &#xD;
protagonist, Zacks constructs him as a morally conflicted character shaped by political &#xD;
power, legal ambiguity, and personal flaws. The purpose of this research is to identify &#xD;
how Kidd’s actions, motivations, and moral dilemmas align with the literary &#xD;
characteristics of the anti-hero archetype.This research applies a qualitative descriptive &#xD;
method supported by literary theory, particularly character and characterization &#xD;
analysis, to examine Kidd’s portrayal. The analysis focuses on narrative descriptions, &#xD;
behavior, dialogue, and contextual events that reveal Kidd’s internal and external &#xD;
conflicts. The study finds that Kidd embodies key anti-hero traits, including moral &#xD;
ambiguity, resistance to corruption, flawed decision-making, and an ultimate downfall &#xD;
influenced by betrayal and systemic injustice. His role as a privateer commissioned by &#xD;
the English Crown positions him between legality and criminality, which becomes &#xD;
central to his identity and eventual misrepresentation as a pirate.The findings conclude &#xD;
that Captain Kidd’s characterization reflects the complexity and nuance typical of anti hero narratives. His actions cannot be fully categorized as heroic or villainous; instead, &#xD;
they demonstrate the influence of environmental pressure, shifting loyalty, and &#xD;
personal conviction. Through Kidd’s journey, the novel challenges traditional &#xD;
historical interpretations and invites readers to question dominant narratives about &#xD;
power, justice, and morality.&#xD;

      <title>SEMANTIC ROLES AND VALENCY IN ACEHNESE LANGUAGE</title>
      <link>http://repository.uisu.ac.id/handle/123456789/5353</link>
      <description>Title: SEMANTIC ROLES AND VALENCY IN ACEHNESE LANGUAGE
Authors: M.J, NURBASYIRAH
Abstract: ABSTRACT&#xD;
This study aims to analyze semantic roles and valency in Pidie dialect Acehnese with &#xD;
a focus on two main objectives: (1) To analyze and describe the sentence structure of &#xD;
valency one and valency two in Acehnese, and (2) To identify and explain the semantic &#xD;
roles associated with valency one and valency two in Acehnese sentences. With a &#xD;
sentence structure that reflects the relationship between the predicate and its &#xD;
arguments, semantic roles pioneered by Charles W. Kreidler in his book Introducing &#xD;
English Semantics such as actor, affected, affecting, agent, associate, effect, place and &#xD;
theme play an important role in determining the meaning and function of elements in &#xD;
a sentence. Meanwhile, valency refers to the number and type of arguments required &#xD;
or permitted by a predicate. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study &#xD;
analyzes data collected from native Acehnese speakers through observation, &#xD;
questioner, and interview methods. The results of the analysis show that Acehnese has &#xD;
a rich and flexible semantic role system with significant valency variations, depending &#xD;
on the type of predicate and the context of use. This research makes an important &#xD;
contribution to understanding the linguistic typology of Acehnese, as well as enriching &#xD;
the study of syntax and semantics in Austronesian languages in general.&#xD;

      <title>SARCASM IN PUTU WIJAYA’S SHORT STORY GURU A THESIS</title>
      <link>http://repository.uisu.ac.id/handle/123456789/5341</link>
      <description>Title: SARCASM IN PUTU WIJAYA’S SHORT STORY GURU A THESIS
Authors: ZAILANI, MHD WAHYU GUNAWAN SYAH
Abstract: ABSTRACT&#xD;
This thesis examines the use of sarcasm in Putu Wijaya's short story "Guru" Using &#xD;
a qualitative textual approach grounded in the sociology of literature and pragmatic &#xD;
theories of sarcasm, the study treats the story as primary data and supports interpretation &#xD;
with relevant secondary literature. The analysis identifies three interrelated causes of &#xD;
sarcastic expression in the text: psychological triggers rooted in fear and pride, emotional &#xD;
responses such as disappointment and anger, and contextual irony that reveals the gap &#xD;
between public praise for teachers and their actual social and economic position. The &#xD;
findings show that sarcasm performs at least three functions in the narrative. First, it serves &#xD;
as a form of social critique that exposes materialism and institutional hypocrisy. Second, &#xD;
it acts as a rhetorical strategy aimed at shaming or persuading characters into conformity. &#xD;
Third, it functions as a tool of character revelation that brings generational conflict and &#xD;
moral tension into sharper focus. The thesis concludes that Putu Wijaya uses sarcasm not &#xD;
merely to amuse but to provoke reflection about the value of education and the treatment &#xD;
of teachers. The study offers suggestions for further comparative research on sarcasm in &#xD;
modern Indonesian literature and implications for readers and educators.</description>
